I find it very interesting that the Catholic Church which has historically been one of the most powerful forces on the planet, has spent the last 2,000 years demonizing wealth while simultaneously amassing an incredible fortune.
One of the yogis I studied with said this wasn't an accident. According to him, mention of Jesus's wealth was edited out of the Bible. The church wanted Jesus portrayed as poor, and yet he was someone who was highly educated, had access to and debated with the richest people of the time, wore luxurious clothing under his robes, and freely travelled the world. His wealth gave him access to teachings, experiences, and a lifestyle of freedom that wasn't available to most.
You're welcome to believe what you want about that, but as you can imagine, it's hard to control people who are wealthy and free. If you could make those same people dependent on you for their livelihood and even their salvation, well... you could probably build an empire with that!
